It's one of the side doors, not one of the main doors. In fact, I don't think it was part of the original structure. I may have to return and get an english speaking tour guide for that portion. The tour we got was rather whirlwind and almost all in Chinese.

Well I see that my previous comment was eaten by the Blogspot gods or whomever. Oh well, those were just GREAT Photos Phil. I've never been there and was sorta astounded at the sheer size of the Forbidden City and of Tianamen Square. Can't wait to see more of your marvelous shots!
