Toronto Photo Walks: Spadina Two

Okay, I am a little lot behind in posting my photo walk pictures here. Back in the end of May I did two photo walks with two groups. My regular group and a Google + group. I have posted some of the pictures from the Google + photo walk but I have neglected my Toronto Photo Walks group. My bad, I hereby attempt to correct that short sightedness. We started down on Queen's Quay at the foot of Spadina and worked our way north. I stuck around with the group till lunch time and made it as far north as Dundas. The reason this walk is #2 is that back when the group was first formed they did it in a November. The day was much better for walking and cameras, from some of the stories I heard. Anyway, on to the pictures.

Scavenger Hunt!

Good morning one and all. I am trying to sort out thoughts and feelings here. In the month of May, myself and 500 photographers too part in a Scavenger hunt on Google Plus. Ten items were listed that we had to shoot. Afterwards they were all collected by a single person, stripped of personal information, and then handed to a panel of judges for selection. I managed to complete all ten items in the month. I thought some were good. Some I knew were rather weak. I waited patiently for the reveal. Well as of yesterday, the final album was revealed, and almost all judgements made. In a word? I sucked. That's right, my pictures sucked. Compared with all the talent that was shown, the outside the box thinking, the inside the box thinking, the post processing, the photoshopping.... I hang my head in shame.

Now this isn't a hang up and quit post if you are wondering. All my images were technically correct. The post processing in some of them could have used a little more though. Where I fell down was in the creativity arena. I am used to photowalking more than I am conceptual thinking. Needless to say I will be diving into the next hunt full bore, which is too occur in July. I will show my pictures here then I will link to the albums afterwards. Take some time and go through them. Trust me, the talent and ideas were just astonishing.

Now that is over with, for the bright side in all this. I did meet a lot of wonderful people online. I helped people with questions on the technical side. I laughed, I cried, and you know the drill. I did actually meet one of the judges in real life and a few contestants as well during the Great Canadian Photo Walk a month ago. Great people, and fun people. This hunt has shown me my weaknesses and that means it has given me something to strive for. So this ramble is done and time for my pictures and links to the others.

365 Project Update IV

365-35 The Light
Above the window and leading to the door, a light guides us in the darkness.

Project 365 Update III

365-28: Hat
I haven't been wearing it much lately. It's hard to fit it under a helmet.

365-29: Reason 1
Shots like this will slowly fade away to obscurity. The new subway trains only have side views and no front or rear views.

365-30:Bull Rushes
Camouflage...there's always more to the picture if you look closely enough.

365-31:Friends
Sometimes, when things are at the darkest. Friends will come along and kick you in the ass and tell you to stop feeling sorry for your self. BBQ also helps...

365-32: Lock
Memories. Lock 42 in Washago was a fun place to sit and watch the boats go by in the summer. Houseboats, yachts, small motor boats, and occasionally canoes. Where were they going? Where did they come from? In the end, it didn't matter. They were just sailing by.

365-33: Transformer
At the setting sun, the transformer goes to work to assist people in the darkness.

The rare and elusive Canadian Roof Moose here seen in it's urban habitat.

365 Project Update II

Okay been slacking with posting again. So back to the 365 Project that still is ongoing, no matter my posting schedule...


365-21: Distance
Sometimes you don't see what caught your eye until after you look at the picture. Going to be doing some serious distance this year I think on my bike.

365-22: Pigeons
Just a flock of birds.

365-23: Booth
These old style booths. The memories they bring back. Only thing missing is the small jukebox on the wall.

Silhouettes and bright lights.

Slowly it made it's way long the concrete. Searching for the sunlight and breeze.

The Honey locust flowering in the late spring. Late coming and soon to be gone.
