Toronto Photo Walks: Liberty Village 3

This whole batch was shot with my "Nifty Fifty". 50mm focal lens for all those that are curious. Low aperture settings and some real interesting close shots. Should do some more work with it just for fun.

Shooting Macro

Well, I have a lens now that lets me shoot macro photography. What's macro you ask? Well to simplify it, it's a lens that allows you to take close up photos of smallish items and keep the picture in focus. Before I got the macro lens, I was using a poor mans macro. I would take my 50mm lens, remove it from the body and flip the front to the back and hold it in front of the shutter before taking a picture. Yes it's possible to do this. I may shoot a video of how to do it for those that don't understand.

Anyway, this is a result of a poor man's macro lens.

Now with a real macro lens you get shots like these:







Only downside to a macro lens? You have to move yourself physically to focus. So worth the effort I find. I will be doing experimentation with it on all sorts of things. Just you wait and see.

Toronto Pillow Fight: And....ACTION!!!

Finally everyone was ready and the pillows began to fly. And hit, and hit and hit. Anyone was a legitimate target if they were holding something fluffy. Photographers were off limits as well as passerbys. Needless to say I was hit a few times, mostly by accident, and apologies were quickly delivered. I didn't mind the occassional thumping. I was moving a lot looking for shots. I got a bunch. Okay a LOT!!!

Nietzsche at Home

Thought I would start off the post with an attempt I did the other night. I was getting a ride home after visiting with Nietzsche and SusieG and of course he has to be in the middle of everything. I like taking pictures of him. At rest in action, you name it. He's good practice for a lot of styles and forms of photography.

One thing I have to watch is lighting though. A good strobe/flash would help in some situations I think. One thing on my list. A good example of lighting is the time we were at a golf course recently.




When we are at his home he can be more calmer and I can control most of the lighting. White dogs are a bear with over exposure. I think I have gotten the hang of it though.


I have taken a few with flash, and this week I have the use of a 50mm Prime lens. Here's some shots I took the other night without flash. The lighting was great for where he was located, and I lent myself to some experimentation. So enjoy the next few. I am done.
