Toronto Photo Walks: Center Island 1

Well, back to photo walking this week. We returned to the Toronto Islands for this one. Why? Well, mostly because of the Dragon Boat races, and Cos-players. Besides it's summer and the summer always goes better with a trip to the islands. We didn't do that epic walk like last September, so we should have had an easier time of things. Or so I thought. Well, onwards I guess.

China: Terracotta and Warriors

Sorry about no posting yesterday. Got distracted by something in real life. As the case may be. Anyway, where were we? Oh yes, wandering around Xian with our tour guide. After Banpo village we made a short stop at a terracotta factory where they made all sorts and sizes of Terracotta Warrior statues. As well they made some other things like cups, dishes, and other figures. I learned a couple of things incidently. Like the clay used for white porcelain was naturally black, and changed it's colour to a whitish when fired in a kiln. After we looked around the factory it was off to the crowning jewel in the trip to China and Xian. The Terracotta Warriors, trust me the displays that go on world tours is a mere pittance to what you actually see at the main site.

China: Ban Po Village

Well, today is a China day for pictures. There's a lot to see in Xi'an. A lot. My mother and I for one day hired a tour guide to show us around. Trust me, it's worth the expense to hire a private guide for a small group. Two being a very small group. Our guide asked us what we wanted to see, gave suggestions, and facilitated everything. Totally worth it. We wanted to see the Terracotta Warriors of course, but our guide recommended a few other sites and locations. First on the list was an ancient neolithic village that had been found in the city when they were building a power station. Very interesting to see.
